Young Shooting Victim Opens Eyes; Family Needs Help

Christian Garcia, the 18-year-old victim who sustained life threatening injuries from a gun shot wound to the head in the early hours of August 1st in Mineral Wells, remains in critical condition, but has opened his eyes, according to family report’s on social media.

Garcia was airlifted from the shooting scene and taken to Harris Hospital where he was listed in grave condition, according to reports by Mineral Wells Police Department.
Garcia’s dad, Jesse, has been by his son’s side at the hospital since the shooting and updated family and friends through social media this morning with the following post:
He is still not in the clear but this is a major leap!! I can’t hold back my tears of joy! Christian opened his eyes when we walked in, he blinked a few times and held his eyes open. As I walked round his bed to get little Jesse closer he followed me n then locked on to jesse and nate!! Grandma Maria went in after us and he responded to his name being called. According to reports, police were called to the 200 Block of Evergreen around 2:30am for a possible shooting incident. Officers and EMS arrived on scene to find the 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his head and was immediately airlifted from a nearby field and taken to a Ft Worth hospital.
Detectives with MWPD were dispatched to the scene to interview witnesses, collect evidence and ultimately arrested 18-year-old Brayden Neal Weems.
Weems remains in custody at the Palo Pinto County Jail and is currently charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The suspect has not been arraigned and no bond has been set at the time of this report.

Police say there were seven teenage males at the residence during the time of the incident. Detectives interviewed five witnesses onscene and completed thecrime scene investigation, where two
9mm handguns were recovered. The investigation is ongoing and MWPD will provide updates as they are available.
