HOUSE FIRE RESULTS IN FATALITY: INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING

MINERAL WELLS, TEXAS – On October 5, 2023, at approximately 03:38 a.m., Mineral Wells Fire/EMS received a call reporting a visible fire coming from a residence, located at 400 NE 9th Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found the residence fully involved and began fire attack efforts. Firefighters entered the structure to begin offensively attacking the fire.
During the preliminary sweep of the interior, firefighters located one victim in a bedroom of the residence. The fire was quickly extinguished with no other victims found.
The victim, an adult male approximately 60 years of age, was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to the Dallas Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The structure has been deemed to be a total loss.
An investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing including factors that may have contributed to the victim’s death in this instance. The preliminary investigation has found there were no working smoke detectors present inside of the residence. More information will be released when it becomes available. The investigation remains open and active.
