In a Special Session of the Mineral Wells City Council at noon on February 13th, officials certified a petition submitted by resident Ron Davis to recall Ward 2 Councilman Carlos Maldonado.

He is the third councilman targeted by a social media group who are pushing back against water rate hikes passed by city officials last August. The group mobilized and circulated petitions for a recall in Ward 1, Ward 4 and now Ward 2.
The City approved a $277 million water infrastructure package that intends to complete the construction of the long anticipated Turkey Peak Reservoir and a new water treatment plant designed to provide water security for the next 50 years.

Maldonado indicated he won’t step down and told MWAN that he urged City leaders to expedite the process so that his name could be placed on the next election ballot, which takes place on May 4th.
Elections, not misguided recalls are the place to make decisions on who serves you.

The following statement was issued by Maldonado who says he will let the voters speak:
“Circumstances does not change responsibilities“
Our community is currently experiencing the effects and uncertainty of change. Change can be viewed in two ways, perception vs perspective. We all look at the world through our own perception, but perception is your own interpretation of the world around you, it is unique only to you, there is no advantage in your perception. That is why so many people find themselves arguing all the time trying to convince others of their own perception. Perspective is the act of the art of observing the world from outside of yourself, whether that is outside of yourself as a entity just observing a different point of view or even more powerful you sitting in the seat of the person opposite you. I know the challenge that comes with viewing our community today in a perspective view, I have challenged myself along with leaders and community members to view change in a perspective form. Nothing worth fighting for comes easy.
Citizens of Mineral Wells you have a choice. Keep in mind negativity has ten letters but so does positivity. I urge you to remain engaged through your civil duties and let your voice and vote be heard, it is our responsibility. Remember actions speak louder than words.
When evil ignores you, you must be doing something wrong. When evil comes at you, maybe it is because you are trying to do something right. Elections, not misguided recalls are the place to make decisions on who serves you. All problems cannot be fixed from the couch. A very mature 16 year old once told me “dad, you have been coaching the Dallas Cowboy’s from the couch for years”
For nearly 30 years this City and community has given me faith, hope, meaning and purpose. Therefore, the only way I saw fit in return was to spend all of my adult life doing my civic responsibilities in different capacities, regardless of these unsettling circumstances. I know this community will rise above and continue to succeed united.
