Rodney Thomas Roberts, a life-long resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away at his home in Mineral Wells on February 8, 2024, after a long and courageous ten-year battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life for Rodney Roberts will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Mineral Wells Women’s Club, 201 NE 2nd St, Mineral Wells, TX  76067.  Rev. Margie Holmes will officiate, starting at 11AM.  After the service, food and drinks will be available, and all are invited to stay and visit in celebration of the life of a man who touched so many lives in Mineral Wells and beyond. 

Rodney Thomas Roberts was born on August 25, 1957, toGeorge and Lavell Roberts in Mineral Wells, Texas, and he never lived anywhere else.  Before he was born, his parents bought White’s Auto Store and moved to Mineral Wells in 1946.  The store later became known as Western Auto, and he worked at the store, starting in his teen years, and continued to operate the store in the downtown area, after his father passed away, until he closed the store in 2020. 

He attended schools in Mineral Wells and graduated from Mineral Wells High School with the Class of 1975.

He married his wife, Cathy Roberts, on Sept. 15, 1979, in Mineral Wells, and she was by his side when he passed away.  Together they were active in the community, while raising three sons.    

He gave back to the community as an active participant in various organizations over the years in the Mineral Wells area, including Kiwanis, Jaycees, Palo Pinto County Livestock Asso., Mineral Wells Downtown Merchants, and oversaw and organized the Christmas Parade for many years.  He was also active in the Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Dept. for several years and was named Firefighter of the Year in 1994.  

He was an outdoorsman, avid hunter, certified diver, snow skier, 4-wheeler, and enjoyed spending time at the lake, as well as playing golf with his golfing buddies, an activity he loved participating in, even up to shortly before his death. 

In addition to his wife Cathy, he is also survived by their three sons, Christopher Roberts and wife Ramsey of Santo, Texas, Chad Roberts and wife Alicia of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Brett Roberts and fiancée Brittany Bechtold of Willow Park, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Lynn Sumner and husband Steve of Axtell, Texas, his brother Gary Roberts of Dallas, Texas, his sister-in-law, Jodi Stephens of Weatherford, Texas, his brother-in-law, Tom Shoup and wife Lisa of Beaumont, Texas, three precious granddaughters, NolynRoberts, Indie Roberts, and London Roberts, as well as many nephews and nieces, and a host of other family and friends.  

He was preceded in death in his immediate family by his parents, George and Lavell Roberts, and his eldest sister, Sidney Roberts Creecy.

Any contributions may be made in his honor and memory to your local volunteer fire department, or to a charity of your choice.

    Rodney was a very very good man and he is going to be dearly missed by several. He is already missed a lot after us folks that used to go to the store. Rest in peace my friend.
