Mineral Wells thinclads take district meet honors, two advance to Area as others look to join them today

The Jackie Harvey Track Complex this week is again the scene for a district track meet, hosting District 6-4A schools.
A number of Mineral Wells boys and girls track members and teams took honors and advanced to either Thursday’s finals or qualified to compete in the upcoming area meet, with hopes of qualifying for regionals and then the state championships.

Punching their tickets for the area meet were Mineral Wells’ Kahlea Samples and Aniya Richardson after their one-two finish in the girls’ varsity triple jump, with both recording personal bests in the event. Samples, a junior, had her best jump on her fifth attempt at 35-0.50 feet. Richardson, a freshman, was right behind with a best jump of 34-4 feet on her second effort.
Richardson took second and Samples finished fourth in the girls’ varsity long jump. Richardson’s sixth jump was her longest, measuring 16-10.50 feet, while Samples achieved another personal best, also on her sixth try, with a 16-1.50 leap.
Runnin’ Rams Gavriel Rodriguez and Gabriel Borjon finished second and third place, respectively, in the boys’ varsity 3200m race to advance to area competition. Rodriguez clocked in at 10:49.82, about 12 seconds off the winning pace. Borjon crossed the finish line at 10:59.30.
The Mineral Wells varsity girls sit in first place with 31 points, ahead of Stephenville (29.50), Brownwood (26), Glen Rose (22) and Graham (15.50).
The JV boys team sat in third place with 19.50 points, while the varsity boys are fourth with 18 points.
Mineral Wells athletes advancing to district finals on Thursday are:
• Varsity girls 100m hurdles: Iana Echanique (8th place, 17.69 seconds).
• Varsity girls 100m dash: Aniya Richardson (3rd place, 13.28 seconds).
• Junior varsity boys 100m dash: Karlo Galentine (7th place, 12.17 seconds).
• Varsity boys 100m dash: Nicholas Rodriguez (1st place, 11.15 seconds); Gage Lawhorn (3rd place, 11.42).
• Varsity girls 400m dash: Aniya Richardson (3rd place, 1:02.68); Kahlea Samples (6th place, 1:06.08).
• Junior varsity boys 400m dash: Christian Peel (1st place, 55.72 seconds); David Barraza (3rd place, 56.54 seconds); Garrison Facteau (8th place, 59.50 seconds).
• Varsity boys 400m dash: Fredrico Villa (3rd place, 54.51 seconds); Dezmond White (8th place, 55.87)
• Varsity girls 300m hurdles: Iana Echanique (2nd place, 48.23 seconds).
• Junior varsity boys 300m hurdles: (6th place, 49.15 seconds).
• Varsity boys 300m hurdles (second heat): Auden Jaquez (6th place, 46.04 seconds).
• Varsity boys 200m dash: Nicholas Rodriguez (1st place, 22.52 seconds.)
• Girls varsity 4×100 relay: Citlali Lopez Kahlea Samples Jaylee Newman Alexis Eisenburg (4th place, 54.89 seconds).
• Girls varsity 4×400 relay: Citlali Lopez Kahlea Samples Iana Echanique Aniya Richardson (1st place, 4:25:06).
