AD Gives Weekly Sports Update

From the Desk of MWISD Athletic Director Coach Cody Worrell
I hope everyone is doing well and back in their school routine!
Volleyball was very busy this past week! The Lady Rams had two games last Tuesday night, and a three-day tournament for all three teams this past weekend. Fresh/JV played in a tournament in Breckenridge this past weekend and the Varsity played their tournament in Abilene. The freshmen went 2-2 on the weekend, and the JV went 3-1 on their weekend at the Breckenridge tournament. The Varsity Lady Rams went 4-3 on the weekend with wins over Brownwood, Dallas Hillcrest, Sweetwater, and Ingram Moore! Their only losses were to El Paso High (tournament champions), Midland High, as well as Abilene High. The Lady Rams will be back in action this week as we are set to host Benbrook on Tuesday night (Fresh/JV starting at 6:00 p.m., and Varsity to follow). Fresh/JV will be playing the Poolville tournament this weekend, and the Varsity Lady Rams will be playing at the Sanger tournament. If you can, come out on Tuesday night and support our Lady Rams!

Cross-Country had a great showing at the “Boomtown 6 Mile Relay” held in Burkburnett, TX! Both the Varsity Boys & Girls had two different teams of four compete in each division. Team 1 for the Varsity Girls finished in 2 nd place overall, and Team 2 for the Varsity Girls finished in 4 th place! Team 1 for the Varsity Boys finished in 1 st place overall, and Team 2 finished in 3 rd place! The JV Boys also finished in 1 st place overall! Fantastic job for all of our Cross-Country runners! The Cross-Country team will be traveling to Hillsboro on Friday morning! Good luck to Cross-Country!

Tennis also had a great showing this past week as they hosted Millsap last Monday night! The Rams/Lady Rams won 17 out of 19 total matches! Tennis will travel to Eagle Mountain High School on Tuesday afternoon! Good luck to all tennis athletes!
Football had their first scrimmage of the season last Thursday evening in Peaster. The Rams had a great scrimmage and are looking forward to another scrimmage this week. Mineral Wells will be hosting Springtown on Thursday night for the second and final scrimmage of the season! Fresh/JV will both start at 5:30 p.m., and the Varsity will start at 7:00 p.m.

At the football scrimmage, both Springtown and Mineral Wells will be participating in the THSCEF’s (Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation) “Our Day to Shine” campaign. To date, “Our Day to Shine” has involved over 1,165 schools and raised over $721,000 for the THSCEF Benevolence Fund. The Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation has paid over $641,000 to athletes and coaches experiencing hardships. “Our Day to Shine” is simply cash/Venmo donations at the gate, and 100% of all donations will go the THSCEF Benevolence Fund. Thank you all for all that you do!
