GORDON – Gordon scored nine first-half touchdowns running just nine offensive plays to vanquish Valley, 68-6, in a game that ended at halftime with the Texas sixman football mercy rule invoked.

Junior Ry Reed led the defending Class 1A-1 champions with four scores, including a 38-yard punt return and a 34-yard fumble scoop and score. He also had touchdown runs of 30 and 60 yards.
Another junior running back, Stryker Reed, scored touchdowns on runs of 44 and 60 yards, while Aiden Shank added a 9-yard touchdown run.
Junior quarterback Noah Kostiha completed both of his pass attempts, with both going for touchdowns. A 42-yard pass to Brayden Walters produced the ‘Horns first score of the game, then a 27-yard pass to Asher Salinas resulted in the first touchdown of the second quarter.
The two Reeds (not related) recorded 203 rushing yards on just five combined carries with four touchdowns. Stryker Reed had 113 yards on three runs (37.6 yards per carry) while Ry Reed tallied 90 yards on two runs (45 ypc) on the 80-yard field.
Gordon totaled 295 yards of offense on nine plays while holding Valley to 93 yards (44 rushing, 49 passing) on 30 plays from scrimmage.
The ‘Horns converted seven of their nine point-after kicks. Salinas was 4-for-5 and Juan Cabrera was 3-for-4.

Gordon was on top 44-0 in the second quarter before the Patriots (0-2) were able to score on a 44-yard touchdown pass. The ‘Horns scored three more times before halftime to end the contest.
The Longhorns are now 2-0 on the year and 29-1 in their last 30 games. Gordon has not played a full four-quarter game in its last 17 outings.
Next up is the most-storied rivalry in Texas sixman football, the clash between Palo Pinto County neighbors Gordon and Strawn.
Gordon has held the upper hand the last two years over Strawn, winning by a combined score of 98-6, including 46-0 last year in the 100th gridiron meeting between the schools.

The Class 1A-2 Greyhounds, who won their fifth state title in 2021, will enter Friday’s game 1-1 after losing to Knox City, 75-54, a week after opening the year with a 71-21 win in Montana against Custer/Hysham/Melstone.
Kickoff at Strawn’s Greyhound Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m.
