Palo Pinto County has one basketball team still in contention for a state championship – the Graford Jackrabbits.
The Running ‘Rabbits cruised past the Albany Lions, 66-46, Friday night in Eastland in the Class 2A-Region 2 Texas UIL boys basketball playoffs.
With the win, Graford improved to 21-10 on the year while the Lions ended their season with a 14-9 ledger.
Playing their first season in Class 2A, Graford advances to the regional semifinals to take on the Lindsay Knights. The game is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bridgeport High School.
Lindsay (23-11) edged Clarksville, 56-53, to advance. The Knights finished the regular season runners up in District 13-2A behind Slidell, losing both district games. Slidell also defeated Graford in non-district action.

The Graford-Lindsay winner will face the winner of Lipan-Honey Grove, potentially setting up a district rematch between Graford and the Indians, which won both games against Graford in district play on their way to the district title. Graford finished runners up to Lipan.
Meanwhile, Gordon saw their hopes of returning to Austin dashed Friday night, losing the Class 1A defending champions Jayton Jaybirds, 51-34. The score did not indicate how close the game was throughout most of the area round contest, played at Abilene Wylie. However, Jayton was able to pull away from the ‘Horns in the final period.
Gordon’s season ends with a 21-4 record overall after going 10-0 and winning their second consecutive district title.
