The Mineral Wells Rams saw their five-game win streak end in a pitcher’s duel, dropping a tight 2-1 decision to Burkburnett on Saturday to conclude the three-day CrazyTown Classic at Pratt Field.
The Rams (6-2) mustered just three base hits against two Bulldogs pitchers. The team’s lone run scored on a steal of home by Josh Petrie in the fourth inning. Petrie started on the mound for Mineral Wells, throwing two innings allowing two runs (one earned) and four walks with one strikeout.
Tyler McWhorter threw three innings in relief of Petrie, striking out seven bulldogs while giving up two hits and no runs. Curry Crouch threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout and one walk.

Burk scored once in the second inning on a passed ball and one in the third on an RBI single.
Devin Russell, Owen Gadd and Hayes Hering each had a hit for Mineral Wells. Petrie stole four bases.
The fourth inning was the only one in which the Rams had multiple players on the bases, but were able to score just the one run. With one out, Petrie was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Crouch followed with a walk. Hayes Herring was then hit by a pitch to load the bags. Petrie stole home, followed by a McWhorter sacrifice bunt to move two runners into scoring position with two outs. Russell’s hit back to the mound resulted in courtesy runner Jackson Hicks being thrown out at home attempting to score.
Mineral Wells Varsity Rams will travel Tuesday to Lake Worth for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
