Lady Rams explode late to tame Lady Bulldogs

Mineral Wells scored seven runs in their final two at bats to break open a tight game Thursday against visiting Burkburnett, winning by a 9-0 final.
Lady Rams starting pitcher Hailey McWhorter dominated Burk from the circle, whipping seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits with seven strikeouts while walking only one.


Mineral Wells was aided by five Lady Bulldogs errors. Only one of the Lady Rams’ runs were earned.
The Lady Rams took a 1-0 lead in bottom of the first on a two-out passed ball that scored Karli Aaron. Mineral Wells added a run in their half of the fourth on a two-out infield error that allowed Tatum McMinn to score.
Four runs in the fifth gave Mineral Wells breathing, extending their lead to 6-0. Carsyn Presley hit a solo inside the park home run. McMinn and Emery Boswell both drew bases-loaded walks. Scottie Denison capped off the inning with a steal of home.
Kynlee Harkins reached second base on a two-out error in the sixth inning. She took third on a passed ball and scored on a McWhorter triple. McMinn followed with an RBI double, and Denison smacked an RBI double of her own to make it 9-0 in the local ladies’ favor.
Delaney Reitz started in the circle for Burkburnett. The pitcher allowed seven hits over six innings, striking out 10 and walking five while giving up one earned run.
The Lady Rams played errorless ball in the field.
Mineral Wells (13-4) plays at Benbrook on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
