ABILENE – A contingent of Mineral Wells High School track members competed in Friday’s area meet at Shotwell Stadium for the chance to head to this week’s regional meet in Lubbock on the campus of Texas Tech University.
Senior Frederico Villa turned in the best performance by a Running Ram with a first-place finish and a personal best 50.82 seconds (adjusted) in the men’s 400-meter finals.

Joining Villa in Lubbock will be sophomore Josiah Zapata, who finished fourth in the 12-pound shot put with a personal-best heave of 50 feet. It was a very close competition, with Villa missing second place by 11 inches.
One more Ram qualified for regionals with senior Javawn McKinney’s 135-foot throw in the 1.6kg discus event which was good for fourth place.

No Lady Rams qualified for regionals. Mia Chavira narrowly missed qualifying in the discus throw.
