Stryker Reed repeats as top Class 1A athlete as Gordon makes medal haul while shattering state, school records

Gordon ISD boys and girls track teams to take top honors

AUSTIN – Gordon ISD possibly needed a trailer on the back of the team bus to haul home their boys and girls state track meet medals while rewriting state and school record books.

For the second straight year, Gordon took top Class 1A boys team honors with a total of 88 points. Strawn was 14th overall with 14 team points.

The Lady ‘Horns refused to be outdone by their male counterparts, finishing the meet as the top Class 1A girls team after garnering a total of 52 points.

Gordon’s Stryker Reed was once again named the state meet’s top Class 1A athlete, collecting a total of 27 points. He won the same honor at last year’s meet.

The Longhorns took gold and silver in the Class 1A 110-meter boys hurdles. Reed claimed first-place honors and set new state and school records with a time of 14.05. Fellow junior Kaden Crowe was right on his heels, finishing second with a personal best 14.52 finish.

Reed found gold again in the boys 300-meter hurdles, winning the event with a new state- and school-record time of 37.92.

Also setting new state and school records, Gordon’s Ry Reed tasted gold in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a top time of 10.47 seconds.

The ‘Horns struck more gold in the boys 4×200 relay event. The team of Ry Reed, Kaden Crowe, Aiden Shank and Brayden Walters crossed the finish line in 1:29.63 to set a new school record.

Setting a new state and school record, the Gordon boys 4×400 relay team of Ry Reed, Brayden Walters, Rowe Williams and Stryker Reed won gold medals with their time of 3:20.0 running in the fifth lane.

Gordon’s girls 4×100 relay team brought gold home with their top time of 50.02 for a new school record. Running out of the fifth lane were team members Abigail Kirkpatrick, Ava Hawkins, Audrey Hawkins and Gracie Lain. 

The ‘Horns girls 4×400 team of Ava Hawkins, Audrey Hawkins, Marley Jackson and Gracie Lain collected gold with their top Class 1A time of 4:11.43 from the fifth lane.

Lain found gold of her own in the 300-meter hurdles, besting the field with a time of 44.27.

Gordon’s Brayden Walters struck silver with a second-place time of 21.84 in the boys 200-meter dash. His time set a new school record.

Gordon’s Kaden Crowe claimed silver in the 110-meter hurdles with Stryker Reed finishing fifth. Reed finished fifth in the boys high jump event with 6-2 effort.

Gordon’s 4×200 relay team of Audrey Hawkins, Abigail Kirkpatrick, Madelynn West and Ava Hawkins finished sixth with a time of 1:49.26.

STRAWN

Strawn had a pair of gold-medal winners. Alex Hughes won gold for the second consecutive year in the Class 1A discus throw. The Strawn sophomore’s fifth attempt measured 159-5, more than 3 feet better than the second-place finisher.

Strawn senior Milly Hughes struck gold in the Class 1A girls discus throw with a winning toss of 130-8 feet. Her winning distance came on her second attempt. Hughes had a sixth-place finish in the shot put competition with a heave of 32-8.
