LUBBOCK – The Seminole Indians showed why they are a Top 10 team in Class 4A baseball with a 7-2 Game One win Thursday over the Mineral Wells Rams in the Region 1 finals.

That means the Rams (20-11-1) will need to win twice on Saturday if they are to advance to the state tournament. The series shifts to Graham High School, with Game Two scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. If Mineral Wells wins, the decisive third game will follow.
Curry Crouch drew the start for Mineral Wells. He went 2.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits and six earned runs. Tyler McWhorter threw 3.2 innings in relief, allowing one earned run.

The Indians (29-7) jumped on the Rams early, scoring three times in each of the first and second innings.
The Rams tried clawing their way back into the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. Crouch led off with a walk. Braxton May stroked a one-out double double that scored Crouch from first to make it 6-1. With two outs, Josh Petrie doubled, scoring courtesy runner Jaidun Fisher.

Mineral Wells was unable to muster much else offensively. Seminole starting pitcher Obed Reyes went the distance on the bump, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out six and issuing three walks over seven innings.
Devin Russell, Petrie and May each collected two hits for the Rams.
