Mineral Wells Public Library to Launch Summer Reading Program With Community Kickoff Event

The summer reading season is set to begin at the Mineral Wells Public Library with a family-friendly kickoff event planned for Friday, June 5.

The library will host its Summer Reading Kickoff from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., inviting residents of all ages to register for the 2026 Summer Reading Program while enjoying activities, food and community displays.

The event will feature police, fire and EMS vehicles, interactive booths from local organizations and businesses, games, giveaways, hot dogs and snow cones.

Library officials said registration for the Summer Reading Program will officially open June 5 through the ReadSquared platform, which allows participants to log reading time, track progress, earn badges, participate in competitions and qualify for prizes throughout the summer.

The program is open to children, teens and adults.

“I’m thrilled the Library continues the summer reading program,” said Mineral Wells Mayor Regan Johnson. “I loved it in the ’80s as a kid and now I enjoy watching the participation every year and how much fun the kids have. Reading encourages independent thinking, grows knowledge, and takes your imagination on a journey. Young readers get all of that for free!”

Organizers say the kickoff event is designed to encourage reading while providing families with a fun way to connect with community organizations and local first responders.

The event is free and open to the public.
