Reporting By Amy Meyer | Mineral Wells Area News
After an extraordinary 54-year career dedicated to education and athletics, Mineral Wells High School coaching legend Jackie Harvey has announced his retirement.

The announcement was shared by Mineral Wells ISD Athletic Director Cody Worrell, who said Harvey informed him of his decision just a few weeks ago, bringing to a close more than five decades of service to Mineral Wells students and families.
“Coach Harvey has dedicated the last 54 years to teaching and coaching at Mineral Wells High School,” Worrell said.
Harvey’s career has made him one of the most recognizable and respected figures in the community. Worrell said his name has become synonymous with Mineral Wells itself.
“When people think of Mineral Wells, they often think of Crazy Water, the Baker Hotel, and many of the other landmarks that make our community special,” Worrell said. “Coach Jackie Harvey is one of those enduring staples that immediately comes to mind—not only for those who call Mineral Wells home, but also for those looking in from the outside.”

Throughout his career, Harvey influenced thousands of students and athletes, while also serving as a mentor, role model and friend to generations of coaches, teachers and community members.
His impact extended far beyond the classroom and athletic fields, helping shape the lives of young people through leadership, discipline and a commitment to excellence.
While Mineral Wells ISD will undoubtedly feel the loss of one of its longest-serving educators and coaches, Worrell said the district is excited for Harvey and his family as they begin this next chapter.
“We are certainly saddened that Coach Harvey will no longer be coaching alongside us, but we are incredibly excited for him and his family as they begin this new chapter,” Worrell said. “We wish him nothing but the very best in retirement, and we have no doubt he will enjoy spending plenty of time with his grandchildren.”
On behalf of Mineral Wells Athletics, Mineral Wells ISD and the community, Worrell expressed appreciation for Harvey’s decades of dedication and service.
“Thank you, Coach Harvey, for 54 years of unwavering dedication, leadership, and service,” Worrell said. “Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement—you will always be a part of the Mineral Wells family.”
As Harvey steps away from the sidelines, he leaves behind a legacy measured not only by the games won or championships earned, but by the countless lives he helped shape over more than half a century. His influence will continue to be felt throughout Mineral Wells for generations to come.
