“Concerned Citizens” Present Recall Petition with Required Signatures at City Hall

Today a group of citizens led by Terri Glidewell presented a stack of papers to City Clerk Sharon McFadden that they say includes 571 signatures to recall Ward 1 City Councilman Jerrell Tomlin.
Glidewell told reporters today that they had knocked on over 700 doors in Ward 1 to gather enough signatures to have Tomlin recalled.
Glidewell ran a campaign to unseat Tomlin in 2018 for his seat in Ward 1 but failed to win the election.

The group of “concerned citizens” as they referred to themselves said they collected almost 5 times the number of signatures to oust the Councilman than actually voted for him in the last election, which he ran unopposed.
The City Clerk will have a set amount of time to verify the validity of the signatures before the next stage in the recall process.

City Council will meet tomorrow at its regular time and has an Executive Session planned on the agenda to discuss the recall process, along with a few other topics, including the City’s charter.
Glidewell did indicate they won’t stop with Mr Tomlin should their group become successful in their recall attempts of his seat. She said they intend to go after everyone on the Council but don’t have anyone yet they have specifically targeted.
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” said Glidewell.
MWAN will have a better understanding of the recall process following the meeting and will give more updates when more information becomes available.
