Friday the 13th Won’t Scare Away Grocery Shoppers as Retail Giant Comes Back to Town

By Amy Bearden / Mineral Wells Area News
Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day for superstitious people. According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17–21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of this day, making it the most feared day and date in history.
Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed. It’s been estimated that $800–900 million is lost in business in the US on this day.

Well this “unlucky” Friday, that will likely not be the case in Mineral Wells as residents may actually feel lucky tomorrow Friday the 13th as a grocery retail giant sets to open its doors once again in town.
17 years ago residents of Mineral Wells found themselves with one less grocery store in the community to grab their grub from when the Tyler based grocer Brookshire’s closed its doors.
Tomorrow those doors will open again in a new location.

The grocery store known as Metro has been purchased by Brookshire’s and is in the process of revamping the store. The store closed on Monday as a team of workers began the process of branding the building as a Brookshire’s(BCG) store.
Brookshire’s Statement Regarding MW Store
BGC is so excited to return to the Mineral Wells community. Since our previous location closed 17 years ago, we have kept our Mineral Wells neighbors in mind and are grateful for this opportunity to serve them again. We have continuously looked at how we can return to the Mineral Wells community and this opportunity and timing is aligned with our growth plan. We are dedicated to being the premier retailer in the markets we serve. We are happy to bring more jobs to Mineral Wells as we grow our team with competitive wages and career opportunities. Many of the Diamond employees are receiving raises which align with our pay structure. Our team is working hard to open as our Brookshire’s store this Friday, Oct. 13, following a brief transition. Following the opening, the store will undergo a complete remodel process to bring new features and expanded offering to customers in the coming months.
Brookshire’s (BCG) Corporate Statement Regarding the Mineral Wells store
Mineral Wells Area News spoke with the grocer’s Communication Director Morgan Jones and she indicated that after the first of the new year, the store will go through a complete remodel to upgrade the facility to become inline with the rest of their grocery stores. Jones said that process could take up to three months.

Many have inquired about the Diamond Pharmacy that operates in the former Metro Store and she indicated there would no be change in the pharmacy and it would remain as the Diamond brand.
The new store will open at 7am on Friday October 13th at 100 SE 17th Avenue. Feel free to stay home if you are one of those that thinks the famed superstitious date might be unlucky, but this Crazy News Lady is going to risk it to see just how amazing the new store will be for the community, as we are literally down to two grocers, unless you count Dollar General. Welcome Back Brookshire’s!
