LADY RAMS
The Lady Rams traveled to Godley to take on the powerful Lady Wildcats. The young Lady Rams saw in Godley the kind of team they would like to be, but also saw how far they have to go to get there.
Godley went 28-8 last season, including an 11-1 mark in their Class 4A district. They are off to a strong start this season, winning their first three games by an average of 30 points per game, including Tuesday’s 57-14 win over Mineral Wells.
It marked the second game the Lady Rams have struggled to score. After scoring 48 points in their season-opening win against Venus, the Lady Rams (1-2) have managed just 19 points and 14 points in their last two games.
Godley held Mineral Wells scoreless in the first period, marking the second consecutive quarter the Lady Rams failed to score after being blanked in the final quarter Saturday against Grapevine Faith Christian.
Mineral Wells managed just 5 points scored in the second period, three in the third and six in the final stanza. The Lady Rams made five field goals on 30 attempts, a 17% shooting percentage. The ladies were 2-of-12 from behind the arc.
Sophomore Dasia Clardy and freshman Aniya Richardson had three points each, coming on made three-pointers.
The Lady Rams had just 13 rebounds, with three each by senior Caitlyn Colwell and sophomore Emery Boswell. Mineral Wells defenders managed six steals, but the team committed 13 turnovers.
Mineral Wells continues its challenging early non-district scheduled Friday at Class 3A Iowa Park (2-1). Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
