State of the Community

Mineral Wells Mayor Regan Johnson spoke to a crowd of 200 business owners and community leaders at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual “State of the Union” luncheon.

Johnson rallied the crowd by asking them to pat themselves on the back and be proud of the changes that are taking place in the community.

She encouraged the crowd to not be distracted by negative social media noise and eventually asked City Council members at the luncheon to stand, then directly said to the listeners, “We need your support!”
Johnson and the Council are embroiled in a battle with a group of protesters who oppose recent hikes in water rates which leaders say will establish water security in the community for the future.
The outspoken “social media” group has gathered enough signatures to force recall elections in three wards, hoping to unseat current Council members. The group is unhappy with the City’s direction and is attempting to disrupt their plan by putting their own representatives on the Council.

Johnson’s rally cry to the community can be viewed on MWAN’s You Tube channel.
