“I’ll Wear No Man’s Collar”

Davy Crockett

First, I want to thank my supporters, those who voted for me and those who supported me prayerfully, financially, and in so many other ways. It has been the greatest honor to serve this district.

The corruption that exists at the highest level of Texas state government would have made Governor “Pa” Ferguson blush.

Governor Greg Abbott has defiled the Office of Governor by creating and repeating blatant lies about me and my House colleagues, those who took a stand for our public schools. I stood by the Governor on all his legislative priorities but just one, school vouchers. For just one disagreement, and for a $6 million check from Jeff Yass, a Pennsylvanian TikTok investor, and voucher vendor, Abbott went scorched earth against rural Texas and the Representatives who did their jobs-representing their districts.

My tenure in the Texas House included two general sessions, seven special sessions, redistricting, Covid, winter storm Uri, a Democrat quorum break, expulsion of a House member and the impeachment of Ken Paxton. It also includes a litany of conservative victories that made Texas safer, reigned in out-of-control government bureaucracy, lessened what had become a crushing tax burden on our families and businesses, and fostered economic growth.

I am not a good politician. I am just a Texas rancher who wanted to make a difference in my community. Who knew this simple mission would have resulted in three brutal campaigns?

Throughout my three campaigns, because of my unwillingness to be compliant with the two billionaire, “Christian” Nationalist, power brokers that run this state, I have been unmercifully slandered through the politics of unwarranted personal destruction on social media, radio, post mail, streaming sites, and cable television.

In my first race the opposition was the Wilks, Tim Dunn, Empower Texans, and the entire enterprise of dozens of PACs and “non-profits” they financed. The race ended in a hard fought Covi-delayed runoff victory against Farris Wilks ‘son-in-law.

In my second race, my opposition was Wilks and Dunn, Empower Texans (rebranded to Defend Texas Liberty), and the Voucher Lobby, including the American Federation for Children and the School Freedom Fund (based in Virginia). In that race, we dealt with a runoff and an expensive, unnecessary recount.

In my third race the opposition was all the above, but now included a rebranded Defend Texas Liberty (Texans United for a Conservative Majority), vastly greater money from the Voucher Lobby, and Governor Greg Abbott.

This time the millions of dollars spent spreading lies about my record and the non-stop false impugning of my integrity were just too much to overcome. The real losers in this race are:

1)Texas Public Schools;

2) Rural Texas; and

3) Representative Government.

This morning, I have no regrets. I believe in the words of Sam Houston, “Do right and risk the consequences.”

History will prove Ken Paxton is a corrupt, sophisticated criminal. History will prove vouchers are simply an expensive entitlement program for the wealthy and a get rich scheme for voucher vendors. History will prove Governor Greg Abbott is a liar.

History will prove that our current state government is the most corrupt ever and is “bought” by a few radical dominionist billionaires seeking to destroy public education, privatize our public schools and create a Theocracy that is both un-American and un-Texan.

May God Save Texas!

We may not agree on much but I am a proud public school teacher in the great state of Texas. Thank you for defending the integrity of the public school system, and standing up to our dear leader and the cabal of out of state sycophants that defend and support him.

Thank you for your dedicated service, Mr. Rogers. History is a powerful judge, and it is my great wish that it vindicates you soon. I just hope those who are working so hard to dismantle what makes Texas great aren’t able to rewrite that history along the way.

Become a Democrat. Seriously. You might disagree with many in the Democratic party on a variety of policies, but you agree on items 1-3, and you seem to be against corruption and for democracy. All of these are fundamentals that have been lost to the GOP but are supported by Democrats.

May the force be with you and family Glenn.

You “stepped out of line” on a single issue and the apparatus turned on you, just as they are turning on the children of Texas for personal gain.

We are on the opposite sides of the political aisle but I do wish you well fo protecting our children.

You were complicit in every Abbott backed initiative except school vouchers. You lay with dogs and wake with fleas. Nothing but a useful puppet until you weren’t. GOP politicians are like a box of Kleenex. There’s always another one to ready to use.

Extremely well written and spot on. I’m finishing my 45th year as a Texas Public Educator in roles ranging from Teacher-Coach to several Director capacities, Principalships, and, for the past 19 years as a School Superintendent. I’ve served in every classification from Six-Man to 6-A. Never have public educators been so neglected, disrespected, and, dare I say, screwed by “those in power and those with fat checkbooks” as what we are now enduring. Thank you, Sir, for having fought the good fight. A wise Professor once told me: “If you can lay your head on the pillow at night and answer the question ‘Did you do what’s right for kids’?, you’ve done your job. Sleep well my friend.

Thanks for having a spine and calling a spade a spade. Voted conservative for 57 years but I can’t vote for anyone who is so blatantly bought by outside interests and willing to sacrifice rural well being at the alter of money. They worship money, not God. Don’t know who I’ll vote for in November but sure as hell know it won’t be anyone tied to Paxton or Abbott. Corrupt clowns. Thank you for your service and God bless.

The slanderous lies against you and your family reveals what caliber of people are creeping into Texas education and Texas government. Very worrisome. I am happy to have supported you and knowing your wonderful family. God Bless You and God Bless Texas

Qualified congratulations to Rep Rogers for finally admitting all of the corruption in the Texas GOP that he has helped foster and facilitate for years.

You don’t appear to like the lies coming from your party leadership when they’re directed at you, do you? But when they suit you it would appear you have no problem propping them up. Your entire party platform is built around a man who lies the way the rest of us breathe. You and your part are propagating a toxic, society-destroying lie that the election was stolen. By doing so you cynically abuse the trust of your constituents, expecting them to believe you are honest when you are far from it.

I have no doubt the person the Wilks, Dunns and Abbott have replaced you with is much worse but you should acknowledge your role in creating this monster.

I live in Arizona and we are now a school voucher state. There are already lawsuits because of the fraud involved in this scam. The rich are using this to escape paying for tuition. Very few regular folk have the opportunity. This is a rich scam through and through. Texas Governor Abbott is a threat to every working class person in Texas. He and Paxton are crooks.

Wow. Looks like we lost a really great man. How sad. He had an absolute right to vote against it. Rural schools operate on bare bones budgets. However, I would put them up against giant public schools any day. Kids get lost in those schools. I agree wholeheartedly with his philosophy. We are being led by people with a lot of money. Not right.

    PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SECTION I. It shall be the duty of the Legislature of this State, to make suitable provisions for the support and maintenance of a system of Public Free Schools, for the gratuitous instruction of all the inhabitants of this State, between the ages of six and eighteen years.
This was the first paragraph of the founding father’s Texas Constitution regarding public education. There is more. But nothing regarding the funding of private schools.

I have watched the corruption of Texas government over last 8 years. Abbott,Paxton and the rest of the corrupt GOP are moving to subjecate women and destroy our schools. They are determined to force all of us to adhere to Christian Nationalism which is as far from Biblical teaching as it can be. I am glad you are speaking the truth finally. But it took losing your position to do so.

Wow powerful speech. I am so very sorry but it looks like rural Texas that is already suffering the lack of Federal Medicare funds (that Abbott will not take), and now loss of public school funding. Doesn’t look like God will be able to save us because his children on Earth are ignoring the messages God gives us for kindness, truth, and care for our fellow creature.

I am sickened by their conduct and the image of Texas that they have created.
