Letter to the Editor
The Rise of Mineral Wells

Dear Editor,
Having a town we can be proud of is important to me.
As a long time resident of Mineral Wells, I remember good times and bad times. I remember when people said Chili’s wouldn’t make it. I remember when people said Starbucks wouldn’t make it.
They made it.
To me it is a good sign when businesses invest in your town.
Lately, we have seen more chain retailers investing in Mineral Wells. This is a sign that our city looks more appealing in computer models that tell corporations where to go. Places like Boot Barn, Atwoods, and Popeye’s Chicken.
And more importantly we see locals investing in our community! By this I mean the crowd funding of the Crazy Water Hotel, and all the specialty retailers and small businesses downtown and across the city.
We see positive media coverage about what a great place this is to visit.
All of this goes back to some good luck, a lot of prayers, and a bright vision.
Our local government absolutely sets the tone that makes the community an appealing place to invest.
This community is well served by our current city council and Mayor Regan Johnson who along with their predecessors have established plans and a vision of positivity, prosperity, and beauty that we can all believe in. They are trying to do it while being smart with our money, including getting lots of grants.
They have facilitated change we can see.
The type of change that worries me is what would occur if the individuals running for office with the Palo Pinto County Conservative organization were elected. The things that they say such as they want to lower property taxes while paving streets at the same time don’t make any sense when put together like that. Also, they even admit that while they say they want to lower water rates, they have no understanding whatsoever of the water issue even though the information is freely available.
These unknown candidates are completely clueless and totally unproven. They are the type of individuals who hate the government but think they are the solution to fix the government, and those people always seem to create chaos and destruction. That is not change I want!
