Behind a strong effort from pitcher Hailey McWhorter, the Mineral Wells Lady Rams snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday by beating visiting Lipan, 4-0, in non-district action.
McWhorter went the distance in the circle, allowing just five hits and one walk while fanning six in her seven stellar innings of work. McWhorter protected a 1-0 lead until the sixth inning when Mineral Wells put up three runs to provide some breathing room heading into the final frame.
She was backed by another defensive gem by the Lady Rams, committing just one error in the game.
Mineral Wells benefitted from five Lipan errors and five walks. All of Mineral Wells’ four runs were unearned.
An error and a walk to start the bottom of the sixth inning set up Sadie Roach’s infield single that scored Aubree Yowell and Ayana Harrison. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball to put them in scoring position ahead of Roach’s hit.
Roach advanced to third on a walk and another passed ball, scoring on an RBI groundout off the bat of Emery Boswell.
The Lady Rams put up a run in the home half of the second inning. Yowell smacked a two-out line drive to center field. A Lipan error moved her to third and scored on another error, a fly ball that if caught would have ended the inning and kept the game scoreless.
Mineral Wells (9-14, 1-5) will conclude their 2024 season at home Friday facing Graham in a 6:30 p.m.
