McWhorter, Harkins lead offensive explosion

The Mineral Wells Lady Rams exploded for 11 runs in the third inning on their way to a 17-1 win Friday over Alvord.

Hailey McWhorter hit two triples in the inning that, coupled with a pair of errors, accounted for five of the runs. Emery Boswell smacked a two-RBI single. An error on an RBI base knock by Angy Bista plated three Lady Rams. Savanna Silveus had a productive run-scoring ground out.

Shaking off a three-game losing streak, Mineral Wells (12-4) collected 13 hits and were aided by eight Alvord miscues. Just two of Mineral Wells’ runs were earned.

Boswell was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate as the left fielder scored twice to go with her two runs batted in. McWhorter scored four times, and third baseman Kynlee Harkins had four RBIs and and scored three times in the game.

Harkins staked Mineral Wells to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a run-scoring ground out.

The Lady Rams committed one of their two errors in the top of the third that allowed the Lady Bulldogs to knot it up at 1-1.

Mineral Wells blew the game wide open in the bottom of the frame for a 12-1 lead. They weren’t done.

Five more runs came across in the bottom of the fourth. An Alvord error scored a run. Bista had an RBI hit and Harkins smacked a two-RBI triple. Tatum McMinn followed with a single, scoring Harkins.

McWhorter pitched all four innings for the Lady Rams. She allowed one hit and one unearned run, striking out four and walking two. 

The Lady Rams saw their 11-game win streak broken Thursday by Jacksboro, 9-5, at the Graham tournament. They followed that with two more losses – 10-8 against Boyd and then 11-3 to Snyder.

Mineral Wells is scheduled to face the Holliday Lady Eagles on Saturday.
