Mineral Wells remains perfect in district

GRAHAM – Mineral Wells ace Holden Hering went the distance Tuesday, overwhelming Graham’s batters in a 2-0 win.
The Steers broke up Hering’s no-hit bid with a fifth-inning single. The only other Steer to reach base came on a hit-by-pitch leading off the home half of the second. Neither runner advanced to second. Facing 23 batters, Hering threw just 72 pitches – 50 of those for strikes. He fanned nine Graham hitters with no walks in another stellar mound performance for the Texas Tech commit.

The Rams offense generated all they would need in the top of the third. Devin Russell singled into center, scoring Preston Mendez and William Hollifield. Mendez had walked to lead off the frame and Hollifield reached on an error. Hering collected one of his two hits to load the bases ahead of Russell’s two-out hit.
Mineral Wells improved to 5-0 in District 6-4A to remain atop the district standings, while raising their season record to 12-7-1. Graham visits Mineral Wells in a game moved to noon Saturday to accommodate this weekend’s area track meet schedule.
