Palo Pinto General Hospital Easter Egg Hunt

Dodging scattered showers and TxDOT road maintenance on IH-180, over 150 children of all ages attended this Good Friday morning’s third annual Easter Egg Hunt at Palo Pinto General Hospital.

The event was co-sponsored by the hospital along with Palo Pinto Nursing Center and Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehabilitation. The three co-sponsors, along with Gentiva Hospice and Centerwell Home Health, donated approximately 6,000 plastic Easter eggs while the residents of Palo Pinto Nursing Center and Mineral Wells Nursing and Rehabilitation stuffed the eggs with candy, toys, and stickers.

From inside her Easter Bunny costume, Staci Wells, the Business Development Specialist with Palo Pinto Nursing Center, commented, “I love it. I love Easter and I think this is a fun way for us to spend time together and get to mingle with the community. I think it is a great way to give back to our community as well”.

Residents from the nursing facilities were on hand to see the children enjoy their handiwork. Eighty-nine-year-old Verne Novak, who assisted with the egg stuffing work, commented, “I wanted to watch them kids Easter egg (hunt). It’s wonderful. It’s going to be a fun day.”

With the safety and enjoyment of the children in mind, the front lawn of the hospital around the walking track and gazebo was divided into age-appropriate areas where the Easter eggs were placed for the children to collect.

The children were divided into age groups, led to the designated areas, and then enthusiastically collected the eggs.

Megan Hudson, the event’s organizer and Palo Pinto General Hospital’s Communications Director, commented, “We wanted everybody to have a fair chance to get some eggs, so we have it broken down zero to three, four to seven, and then eight and up, with eight and up with the eight and up being the furthest away.”

Mineral Wells residents Bubba and Krista Kline brought their children out to enjoy the Easter egg hunt. Bubba commented, “We’re bringing the kids out to have some fun.” Krista went on to describe their children as being “fired up and ready to go”.

The Easter egg hunt is one of two outdoor events Palo Pinto General Hospital plans to hold on the lawn around the gazebo and walking track. The other is an upcoming festival to be held in the Fall of this year.
