The Palo Pinto County Municipal Water District No. 1 (PPCMWD1) is seeking public feedback on proposed improvements to the North Boat Ramp at Lake Palo Pinto as part of a grant application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

The district is applying for funding through TPWD’s Boating Access Grant Program to help pay for the project, which includes replacing and lengthening the existing two-lane boat ramp, adding clean rock for shoreline erosion control, and reconfiguring the parking area to run parallel to the access road.

The project is designed to allow larger vessels to launch during low water conditions, improve safety, and increase visitation. Routine maintenance of the improved facility would be handled by PPCMWD1.

A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) found the project would have no significant impact on the environment. The work would take place on a small 0.13-acre footprint, with any negative effects from construction expected to be minor and short-term.

The draft EA is available for public review at the Palo Pinto County Courthouse, 520 Oak St., Palo Pinto, TX 76484. An electronic copy may be requested by emailing ppcmwd@gmail.com. Written comments may be submitted by email or mailed to PPCMWD1, P.O. Box 387, Mineral Wells, TX 76067.

Public comments will be accepted for 30 days from the posting of this notice.

I concur that the ramp and associated improvements be completed.

Improving and repairing both the boat ramp and the driveway/parking lot would be a huge benefit to visitors and landowners. The driveway leading up to the ramp can have pretty big pot holes and would be a deterrent to visitors who launch their boat. The ramp has been dangerous at times where the concrete has broken off and is underwater whereby boat trailers backing up might fall off of the ramp, sometimes by a dangerous distance. Improving and maintaining the ramp area would definitely leave a better impression of potential visitors to the lake.
