Rams fall to Godley in Homecoming game, 42-21

Mineral Wells fought hard Friday night, but Godley’s second-half push sealed a 42-21 win over the Rams in front of a large Homecoming crowd at Ram Stadium.
Quarterback Javon Johnson, stepping into the starting role after the Rams lost their original starter in the season opener, threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Jackson Hicks on a 46-yard pass in the second quarter and later found Jaidun Fisher for a 39-yard strike in the fourth. Hicks added a 31-yard touchdown run as well, closing the night with 49 rushing yards. Johnson also led the ground game with 89 yards on 17 carries.

The Rams trailed just 21-14 at halftime, but the Wildcats pulled away after the break with two unanswered scores. Godley finished with 350 total yards, while Mineral Wells posted 262 and struggled on third downs, converting just two of nine attempts.
The loss drops Mineral Wells to 2-3 as they head into a bye week before starting district play.

Despite the loss, Friday was also about celebrating, as Homecoming royalty was crowned at halftime. Cruz Rodriguez and Iana Echanique received the honors of King and Queen. The week included a parade, pep rally and a community bonfire leading up to the game. Linda Porter Braford from the class on 1975 was the Coming Home Queen and escorted by fellow classman Holt Price.
The Rams return to action Oct. 10 at Bridgeport to open district.
