Breckenridge police arrest suspect in connection with death of Chyra Davis

The Breckenridge Police Department took Shane Anthony, 47, into custody this evening, Jan. 27, in connection with the death of Chyra Davis, whose body was found earlier today at a residence in Breckenridge.

The BPD and the Texas Rangers had been searching for him for most of the day. He was arrested without incident, Breckenridge Police Chief Blake Johnson said.

According to a news release from Johnson, Anthony was arrested on a warrant from the Stephens County Judicial District Court and is charged with “Penal Code 37.09(a)(1) Tamper with or fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair – Human Corpse.”

That is a second degree felony, and originally the bond was set at $200,000, according to the release, but has since been revoked.

Davis’ body was discovered by the BPD and Texas Rangers at 602 S. O’Connor St. She had been missing since Jan. 18. According to information on the Stephens County Appraisal District’s website, the property where she was found belongs to Anthony, the man her family identified online as the person she had been living with.

Davis’ aunt posted on Facebook that Davis’ phone had been turned off and she hadn’t replied to any messages from the family trying to contact her. She may have been injured at the time, based on discussions via TikTok before she suddenly got off of the app and never returned to the conversation, her family said.

In March 2020, Anthony pleaded guilty to the offense of “Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence – Lesser Included Offense” and was sentenced to two years community supervision, and to pay $500 fine and court costs.
