Newly Sworn In County Tax Assessor Resigns

On January 1st, Stacy Choate raised her right hand and was sworn in for another four-year term as the Palo Pinto County Tax Assessor and Collector, but a little more than two weeks later, she has had a change in heart, and decided to resign her position.
In a statement to Mineral Wells Area News, Choate indicates she has submitted her letter of intent to resign the position and tells us her last day will be February 7th.
“After careful consideration, I have tendered my letter of resignation to the County Judge, Shane Long. I have worked in the Tax Office for sixteen years, eight of which, I served as your County Tax Assessor-Collector. This was not an easy decision to make; however, I feel it is time for me to focus on my family. I have offered my services to the County during this transition, and I would like to thank the voters of Palo Pinto County for allowing me to serve these years. Sincerely, Stacy L. Choate – Palo Pinto County Tax Assessor & Collector“
Choate says that she is unaware who will replace her and it will be left to County Judge Shane Long and the County Commissioners to file her position for the unexpired term. The Courts next regular meeting is set for January 27th.
