PALO PINTO COUNTY — The Palo Pinto County Commissioners Court honored Meagan Martin with a lifesaver award after she performed CPR on an unresponsive man who collapsed inside Texas Grill in October.

The award was presented by Palo Pinto County Constable Marc Moon, who described the scene for commissioners, saying the man had stopped breathing and lost his pulse.
“He quit breathing. Lips turned blue, face turned blue, down on the floor,” Moon told the court.
Moon said Martin had never performed CPR before but immediately checked for breathing and a pulse and began chest compressions and rescue breathing while someone contacted 911.

“She’s never given CPR before. He’s not breathing… nothing. This guy’s gone,” Moon said. “So Meagan started CPR, and she starts pumping on him, giving him breaths.”
Moon said Martin continued CPR through multiple cycles despite the emotional scene inside the restaurant.

“She just keeps working on him,” he said.
After nine rounds of CPR, Moon said the man began showing signs of life.
“Get to the ninth round of CPR, and he takes a breath,” Moon said. “She looks up at me… and she said, ‘I got a faint pulse.’”
Emergency medical services arrived shortly afterward and took over care. Moon said the man later stood up and walked out of the restaurant.

“He walks out of that restaurant. Kid you not,” Moon said.
Moon told commissioners it was the first time in his career he had witnessed CPR result in a patient walking away.
The lifesaver award was presented to Martin in recognition of her actions. She was joined at the meeting by her husband Craig and daughters Emery and Everly.
